Relations between universities and communities:: the gift circuit and sustainability of the territories
Synopsis
This collection reflects on the relationship between public universities and research, notably the actions of university extension. In this connection, this collection comprises extension projects of the Dean of Extension (Proex) of the Federal University of Paraíba, and research carried out within the Interdisciplinary Research Group on Culture, Society and Environment (GICPSA) and by partner groups. It is about thinking and articulating political alliances between different social actors, among them, universities, research groups, and communities to rethink the relations between society and nature, man and nature, remembering that positive and Cartesian science has dissociated. Such dissociation is the matrix of all pathologies in capitalism. GIPCSA in its effort to build a bridge between research and extension, reveals the commitment to give back to the communities surveyed in different services as a practice of reciprocity, integrating a donation circuit that covers the period from 2015 to 2020. Following this perspective, this collection consists of two parts. Part I presents the results of extension projects financed by PROEX developed in the state of Paraíba, with the participation of researchers from GIPCSA and other associated groups, bringing together four experiences in the coastal, wild and hinterland areas. The extension actions involved the construction of the territorial and environmental management plan in the Potiguara Indigenous Land and the solid waste management plan in a municipality in the sertão, as well as surveys of the way of life and the situation of losses experienced by populations affected by the dam, and populations affected by the São Francisco River transposition channel, aiming to subsidize public policies for these groups that do not benefit from water works. Part II included the results of four surveys involving different social groups, including women farmers and traditional populations in their struggles for quality of life and health, as well as to guarantee their territories, in Brazil and in South American countries. , such as Argentina and Colombia. Three of these surveys were carried out within the scope of Gipcsa and benefited from the dialogues promoted by this group. This book is the result of the efforts of researchers committed to the sustainability of territories and to the strengthening of reciprocity ties between public universities and communities.
