Cissampelos sympodialis Eichl. (Menispermaceae): Milona – De 1988 até 2020

A espécie Cissampelos sympodialis Eichl. pertencente à família Menispermaceae é uma trepadeira conhecida popularmente como Milona, utilizada na medicina popular para o tratamento de doenças do aparelho respiratório associado a asma, tosse, bronquite e resfriado comum. Desta planta foram isolados vários alcalóides, dois deles a warifteina e milonina revelaram predominância de atividades farmacológicas que justificam o uso desta planta em processos anti-inflamatórios associados a asma.
A milona é uma das plantas mais estudadas pela equipe de pesquisadores da UFPB. Atualmente domesticada e cultivada no Horto de Plantas Medicinais do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Produtos Naturais e Sintéticos Bioativos/IPeFarM/UFPB, João Pessoa, PB, Brasil de onde partiram os resultados mostrados neste documento. Até o presente momento foram defendidas 41 teses e dissertações, quatro (4) trabalhos de conclusão de curso, 61 artigos científicos foram publicados em revistas nacionais e internacionais, oito (8) capítulos de livros, três (3) pedidos de depósito de patente, sete (7) vídeos disponibilizados no youtube e uma premiação. Todo esse conteúdo está respaldado por dezenas de estudos farmacológicos pré-clínicos, toxicológicos e clínicos nos mais diversos aspectos. A Milona é tão importante que se tornou vegetal símbolo do estado da Paraíba pela Lei nº 9.801, de 14 de junho de 2012, publicado no Diário Oficial. Na UFPB tem um “cantinho” denominado “Recanto da Milona” que está localizado no Instituto de Pesquisa em Fármacos e Medicamentos.
